Some simple rules and best prectices are a reasonable place to start and in themselves will help you to improve your store crawl-ability and conversions.
1. Try to keep your products within 3 click from your main page. Studies have shown that a visitor is only likely to click that far or leave as they cannot find what they seek.
2. Use good internal linking to related content and products to help shoppers find the right product and increase your order average amount.
3. Help users find your links by calling them out with styles that alert the shopper to thier presence.
4. Keep your catgories, sub categories, and products in a logical order.
5. Cross products which require more than one category and use a cross selling technique which is subtle and not spammy.
