Alt Tag is the short and coded term for Alternative text, which is an HTML tag used to describe a text for people using a screen reader. The alt tag appears when the mouse is positioned on the image and also when the visitor does not want to or cannot see the pictures present in a web page. The alt tag is often used to establish relevancy and keywords for an image, but this is not its function. The alt tag is an accessibility tag and its text should briefly describe the image.
