An authority site is a website which has a good amount of inbound links from other related expert or niche websites. Because of the links relevance and related content from other trusted niche sites, an authority site will usually have high trust, PageRank  and favorable search results placement for niche related terms. Wikipedia, is a large example of a textbook authority site.
