A directory is a virtual container or folder within your site's file structure for holding other files and folders. It is recommended that you properly use folders or directories to sort and store files. A directory with 100 images in it will load substantially faster than a directory with 10000 images in it as the server has fewer files to query when producing the correct file/page. Directories/folders also can help you to sort your content by theme or topis more effectively to rank each better as a more narrow topic.
