Meta Description Tag

A meta description tag is a short HTML tag containing 250 characters or less that provides search engines with a description of a page’s content for searchers to view and gain insight as to the topic of the page in the search results. The description tag is not displayed in the webpage itself, and may or may not be displayed in the search engine’s listing for that site depending on its relevance to the search query. Search engines do not use the description tag to rank pages and this tag ideally contains text to propt a searcher to click in to the page from the search results.
