The term search engine positioning or commonly referred to as just positioning can be used in two different contexts. The first is to describe the ordering process or algorithm used to index websites being ranked by a search engine for a Query. The second refers to the use of Search Engine Optimization to achieve a higher search engine Position. Often times the practice of positioning has come to include gray or black hat techniques and other less than fully organic techniques.
