A Search Engine is a computer program which searches or crawls documents for specified keywords and then returns a list of the documents where the keywords were located, ranked according to relevance (or at least that’s the intention). Although a search engine is really a very general class of computer programs, the term very commonly used to specifically describe search systems like Google and Yahoo which enable users to search for documents and pages that the search engine programs have located and the company has properly sorted for users to query on the World Wide Web. Search engines are commonly referred to using the acronym SE also.
