Google Says “Do as I Say, Not as I do!”

So I guess I just have to laugh about the new Adwords layout on the search pages…. Clearly, Google has rules that they will end your business for violating … however, like some other popular public figures, rules DO NOT apply to them!

The incredibly tiny notification of a paid ad is nearly impossible to read. Why you say?

Well the same reason less than ethical webmasters use very near color CSS to hide text. They want or need the text there, but don’t really want you to see it. Webmasters however, are penalized for this deceptive technique, their rankings damaged and in turn their business damaged.

Damn good thing Google doesn’t need to worry about it’s rank!

What Google does need to worry about however, is whether they are meeting the minimum requirements for advertising by the FTC. While you can certainly read the guidelines here … I suspect that the following statement from the FTC speaks volumes on the matter.

The Federal Trade Commission today released new guidance for mobile and other online advertisers that explains how to make disclosures clear and conspicuous to avoid deception.

Truth is why are “we the people” expected to take the high road and Google searches out, exploits and reaps the benefits of every tiny loop hole they can find. I have just 2 words if you don’t get it yet …. GOOGLE SHOPPING (the biggest farce and con played on the public and business owners alike in a very long time).

The Google Shopping Con

  • Setup the con, by releasing it to the public and merchants to use for free
  • Execute the con after shoppers trust the results and the merchants count on the traffic … Now charge the merchants to use it. No pay, no play baby!
  • Lastly hide your dirty deed — shhhhhh, don’t tell anyone, let shoppers continue to believe the results are good, fair and ethical!
